Design your own Top-down Raglan Cardi

Instructor: Alissa Barton       Class Capacity: 25
Class Level: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate

Description ~ Design your own Top-down Raglan Cardi

Raglan sweaters do not have traditional necklines or shoulder seams allowing for easy movement in the underarm area. These popular sweaters are flattering and comfortable to wear.

In this class there will be less knitting and more design discussion than in basic sweater classes. Students will start with yarn selection and gauge, discuss taking measurements, incorporating ease into your sweater, choosing stitch patterns, increases and edge treatments for cuffs, hems and button bands. Those who do not want to make a sweater for themselves are welcome to make an infant sized sweater instead. Pattern for an infant sized sweater is provided in class and used for purposes of discussion. Those wanting to make a sweater for themselves are encouraged to swatch before-hand and bring yarn to class to start. The duration of this cruise, with an entire week of scenic cruising in Antarctica, allows students plenty of time to progress on their projects between classes.

Students will start at the neck and create a custom designed pullover that fits. Choose between a crew neck sweater, V- neck sweater, or a square neckline. Learn how to figure yoke depth, body shaping, sleeve shaping and neckline finishes. This project is suitable for most yarns and knitting levels but if you plan on knitting this project during the cruise you might want to choose a lighter color you can see.

Homework ~ Design your own Top-down Raglan Cardi

Make a swatch if you already have a yarn selection you would like to use for your sweater. How much yarn you will need depends on the weight of yarn you have chosen, the stitch pattern you plan to use, and the size of sweater you plan to make. Alissa is happy to help everyone through email or during a pre-cruise zoom call.

Swatch in the stitch you plan to use in the body of your sweater. Swatch should measure at least 4" square. Larger is ok. (Beginners, stick to stockinette).
